The new generation chooses Security. Modern solutions in the field of welding and cutting were discussed at Kazakhstan Machinery Fair

On April 24, 2024, within the framework of the International Exhibition Kazakhstan Machinery Fair in Astana, a round table was held on the topic of welding technologies "A new generation chooses Safety. Modern solutions in the field of welding and cutting at industrial enterprises of the country". It was organized by ESAB, the world's largest manufacturer of welding products.

The main purpose of the event was to draw attention to the need for safe welding operations. Unfortunately, the statistics of accidents at enterprises still remain deplorable. According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan, in 2023, more than 1,200 of our compatriots were injured at work, of which more than 180 people died.

The speakers were leading companies united by a responsible attitude to the safety of their employees and the creation of a high production culture in general. The experts shared successful cases with their colleagues, as well as proposed new product and technological solutions.

Ekaterina Tatarinova, Director of ESAB Kazakhstan LLP, Head of the ESAB Central Asia region, opened the discussion. In her welcoming speech, she shared with the audience her vision of trends and topical issues in the country's welding industry and stressed the importance of safety and compliance with proper welding practices.

Evgeny Gauf, welding engineer at Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering LLP (KPE)– the largest enterprise in Central Asia producing modern armored wheeled vehicles, shared with colleagues the experience of conducting modern welding operations. The company uses innovative technologies for welding armored sheet and other techniques, has spacious workshops, carries out quality control at all stages of work, including attaches great importance to safety. The main value of the plant is highly qualified technical specialists.

The safety practices of Locomotive Kurastyru Zauyty (LKZ), the leading locomotive manufacturer in the country, were presented by Doskhan Ospanov, welding coordinator and leading engineer of the enterprise. The plant employs 836 employees, 555 locomotives have been produced, which are operated in our country and abroad.

Igor Polomar, Head of the ESAB Kazakhstan LLP product group, introduced colleagues to the latest product solutions for safe welding and cutting. According to the speaker, modern equipment has become more powerful, safer, and smaller. The company's product range includes equipment that helps, for example, to introduce an additional measure of protection against electric shock, lower voltage and reduce smoke emission. And Stanislav Martianov, an engineer at the Rezka product group of ESAB Kazakhstan LLP, spoke about technologies that help protect workers from injury in processes such as machine plasma and laser cutting. Safety light barriers, emergency stop buttons, as well as protection from UV radiation and smoke come to the rescue. ESAB is always ready to offer these and other solutions to responsible companies.

Johan Weibender– Sales manager at TECA, a company specializing in the production of filter ventilation systems, once again stressed that the focus of any enterprise should be on caring for a person. For welding and cutting processes, with their heavy loads, this is especially important. For its part, TECA offers automated ventilation systems capable of efficiently purifying the air in industrial premises.

Director of the Polytechnic College of Kazakhmys Corporation Aigul Syzdykova spoke about the training of young welders at Kazakhmys enterprises. The program includes: WorldSkills Championships

Kazakhstan in the competence of "Welding business" with training according to WorldSkills International standards, safety briefings, etc. The company also uses modern technology and provides each employee with a complete set of PPE. This approach helps to instill a culture of safe production in the early stages of a specialist's work.

Kalizhar Serkebayev, Chief welder of Maker KLMZ LLP, told the participants of the round table about the modernization of production with modern welding solutions. In 2016-2019, in addition to the complete replacement of old equipment with modern equipment, engineering and technological personnel were trained to unlock the capabilities of new welding equipment and thermal cutting equipment. In the following years, the improvement did not stop. So, in 2023, the ESAB PHOENIX PXE 3000 portal thermal cutting machine was purchased, and the latest work tools are constantly being mastered.

Iskander Nuranbekov, Executive Director of Quant Robotics LLP, shared his experience in improving operator safety by automating welding processes using industrial robots at Karasai Machine-Building Plant LLP. The company is one of the first integrators of industrial robots in Kazakhstan. This case study showed the effectiveness of the use of industrial robots in automated welding processes and the positive impact of such techniques on improving safety at the enterprise.

Vladimir Palchkov, Manager of Automation and Robotics at Welding Company LLP, also devoted his presentation to workplace safety and key aspects of welding operations. According to the expert, the basics of collective safety in production are: high-quality operation of ventilation, insulation, smoke removal systems, as well as proper organization of workplaces, training and monitoring of compliance with safety techniques.

At the end of the discussion, the speakers drew attention to the fact that for participating companies, taking care of employee safety is an integral part of their work. In particular, enterprises have introduced the practice of collecting information about issues of concern to employees, receiving feedback using special boards and questionnaires. The successful experience of colleagues, which they shared at the event, will also help to improve their own occupational safety programs and create even more comfortable conditions.

Also, all those present expressed special gratitude to the organizers of the Kazakhstan Machinery Fair, on the site of which a round table was held. This largest international exhibition annually brings together manufacturers, suppliers and consumers of equipment, leading companies in the field of mechanical engineering and metalworking, and representatives of the public sector and relevant business communities.
